Our aims

The aim of our Pre-school is to provide a secure, structured and stimulating environment in which to provide children with the opportunity to meet other adults and similar aged children to develop their abilities and interests fully in line with current legislation.¬† We aim to build on the excellent reputation we have attained over the past forty years and to maintain our unique ‘pre-school’ ethos within the St Leonard’s area.

We are run by a committee of parents and are members of the Preschool Learning Alliance (PLA). We are inspected by OFSTED.

Our history

St Leonard’s Pre-school was originally founded as St Leonard’s Church playgroup nearly fifty years ago by mothers who attended¬† the Church to serve the families of the area. They wanted their three and four years olds to mix and socialize, to learn through play and to be more ready to go on to ‘big school’. Parents fundraised and helped out on the rota as well as employing staff and keeping the accounts. This profile will seem very familiar to many of you and it is, indeed, the essence of our preschool now as it was then.
