For our final week of pre-school this year we will have as our learning focus… Bears! Real bears, teddy bears, bear stories, bear rhymes, bear crafts and everything “beary” – there may even be some beary snacks appearing at snack time. The children are welcome to bring in teddies this week (other furry friends are also welcome!) as well as any favourite Teddy tales, games or other Teddy related things. So we hope you can “bear it” this week and join in the Teddy fun too.

At home together to support your child’s learning you could:

  • Sing the song of The Teddy Bears Picnic together maybe role playing it as you do with some toy bears you have at home (we have attached the words below).
  • Have a little teddy bears picnic at home, maybe letting your child help to make some of the food either real or playdough food.
  • Read any teddy bear or bear stories that you have at home.
  • Find out a few facts about real bears and chat to your child about this varied and interesting animal species.
  • Make a simple memory or snap game with pairs of real bear pictures to help your child to find out about and learn the names of the different types of bears.

Teddy Bear’s Picnic

Anne Murray

If you go down in the woods today

You’re sure of a big surprise

If you go down in the woods today

You’d better go in disguise!

For every bear that ever there was

Will gather there for certain

Because today’s the day the

Teddy Bears have their picnic

Picnic time for Teddy Bears

The little Teddy Bears are having

A lovely time today

Watch them, catch them unawares

And see them picnic on their holiday

See them gaily gad about

They love to play and shout

They never have any cares

At six o’clock their Mommies and Daddies

Will take them home to bed

Because they’re tired little Teddy Bears

Every Teddy Bear who’s been good

Is sure of a treat today

There’s lots of marvelous things to eat

And wonderful games to play

Beneath the trees where nobody sees

They’ll hide and seek as long as they please

‘Cause that’s the way the

Teddy Bears have their picnic

Picnic time for Teddy Bears

The little Teddy Bears are having

A lovely time today

Watch them, catch them unawares

And see them picnic on their holiday

See them gaily gad about

They love to play and shout

They never have any cares

At six o’clock their Mommies and Daddies

Will take them home to bed

Because they’re tired little Teddy Bears

Because they’re tired little Teddy Bears.
